and a happy father's day to you too!
(new pottery by Gary Rith---if you go down a couple of posts you can watch a vid of me painting beagles like that onto pots)
Me and the wife went an hour north to Syracuse, buy hundreds of pounds of clay at the supplier and have some fun on a gorgeous day....
Me, Andrew from Clayscapes, a forklift, lots of clay, our tiny little silver Subie sedan....you will notice Andrew's rather amusing potter's tee....Andrew is funny as hell, and he is like "we gotta raise the forklift, it looks better that way" which was news to me....
its funny, but potters from hundreds of miles around all buy clay from these guys. It is like an old fashioned store, for potters, where the shop keeper has all the gossip on all the far flung customers....
and then, of course, we were down at Alto Cinco for the rather amazing veggie burritos....if you are driving to buy supplies, you have to have fun adventures, and somehow I managed to buy a boatload of neato stuff to give the wife for Christmas...
Across the street, they got a corgi named Soupy. Ohmygosh she is ADORABLE. My adorable little beagle wants to tear her sweet little throat out, sadly...

Yeah, I love it :)
I can't believe your little tiny wife could eat the whole burrito. A veggie burrito sounds excellent. I think I will make those tomorrow.
Our car is much smaller than yours. How much weight was it total that you put in your trunk? We went to a hardware store recently with a plan to purchase some pavers and the total weight was too much for our little car to carry so we didn't buy the pavers.
In BOXES? your clay comes in cardboard boxes?
And there was me thinking you'd have some grizzled old pick-up truck for the clay collection....
We've got a forklift just like that, lying around, mostly unused. I have to hotwire it if I want to use it as the keyswitch is busted. Keep planning to ebay it. Post''n'packing might be expensive. Big bubblewrap needed.
Hey, you mud-slinging pyromaniac planker, happy sunday!
i am curious about the weight you carry in you car as well. i have a small suv (chevy equinox) and only buy 500 lbs of clay at a time... luckily we live only about 10 minutes from the clay supplier. someone recently told me i should be able to carry more.
I only load an equivalent human weight. If the wife is with me I figure there could be 2 adults and a child in the back seat, or even 3 adults, and buy max 500 pounds at a time. Up until last fall we DID have a grizzled old wagon that could hold a lot more, but the wife wanted this little thing....
and the clay is bagged first, then boxed--which prob saves the original company who mixes it, in Ohio, the trouble of worrying about punctured bags or bags slipping around loose on a truck...
that's kinda how i figured out that 500 lbs was the max... i might be able to get away with a little more
Gary that is a LOT OF CLAY!!!! Aye Caramba!
Love the burrito and the Missus's T-shirt!!!
Corgies are cute....I did not know that.
Precious corgi, and MMMMMMmmmm on the veggie burrito, and MY what a big bunch of clay you have Grandma! The better to sculpt you with, my dear!
I Iove Maude's shirt!
Andrew sounds like a cool dude
What a great adventure. We couldn't get our clay like you. We have it shipped . The only clay I like comes from Virginia. It's called Virginia Dogwood. We get 300 lbs at a time.
Corgi's are cute, but really feisty and terrific dog fighters. They actually were bred by the Vikings. They are small like that because it was easier to accommodate them on the ships. They were tiny Vikings, and just as ferocious. hahahaha!
Wow now that is some Burrito. Looks way yummy! :)
