They are not uncommon, but isn't a covered cup clever? My first thought with this one that I would make a flat lid which doubles as a saucer, but I couldn't resist the elephant....the problem is I wanna keep this one I love it so!

There's a long tradition of covered cups...they help keep the warm in. I used to make them years ago; then stopped; I don't remember why.
