beer beer and more beer :)

I was poking through a beer newspaper and came across a beer baked beans recipe , tres simple, and it used just a little beer.  I was like "I have to open a beer in the morning, dump some of it into the crock pot, what do I do with the rest???".  I dunno, as a NOT alcoholic, the smell of beer or anything like that is a nauseating smell in the morning, you know?  5 pm is a different matter...
anyway, as a thrifty guy, I did not want the leftover beer to go to waste and thought "I have heard of beer bread" and the wife tells me of begging her old roomies' boyfriend for a spare can of Bud to make beer bread with...and HO BOY, did this work out beautifully.... I mean, baked beans is the YIN and the bread of the YANG of a nice meal, right? (along with cucumber salad and a cold beer at dinner--I cooked with the cheap stuff, saving the good stuff to drink....next time I wanna use the good stuff to cook with! MORE FLAVOR I bet....)
It is hard to believe how easy and tasty this bread is, I wanna try more recipes like it!

(note--I did not have the exact ingredients for the beans and I improvised a little which was FINE...but with the bread I did the opposite---I did exactly what it said because it was something I had never done before, except I used veg. margerine over the top rather than butter, a spectacular crust, believe me :)

Oh for the YUM!!! Now I just have to pry a bottle of beer out of Proge's hands. Easier said than done! Steal one while he is asleep? Present with fait accompli?!

Yum. I tried a new beer bread recipe a few weeks ago, and could not stop eating it. It was GONE in no time. Amazing! Yours looks great so I know it was just as good!

Beer Bread is the BOMB!
Beer Bread Toast for breakfast is so good.

I usually use Yuengling but in the Fall, when the companies all come out with their harvest flavored brews, you can make some interesting versions.

Sounds yummy! I cook with wine all the time but I used to cook with beer fairly often. Thanks for the nudge.. I might just have to do that again.

I know you enjoy Benny posts so I thought I'd let you know that he's bopping about my blog today. ;)

Here is something weird....I don't drink beer because I don't like the taste but I LOVE things cooked with beer. I've made amazing beer cheese bread, beer cheese soup, a couple of stews, and also some beans with beer and love them all. I think that the better beer you use in your cooking, the better it will taste. I really like cooking with amber colored ales. Sez the bourbon drinker....

I have a good Bier Suppe recipe (in German, which makes things interesting) but I have only rarely made beer bread. Hmmmm...
I do imagine that the baked beans would be awesome with a good dark beer, esp. if you cooked them all from scratch (that's how we roll here in the cooler weather).

The way to get around having to pour a bit of beer in a crockpot recipe is to put it all together the night before. That way it is evening and the question of what to do with an open bottle of beer is not such a difficult quandry. ;) Then I just fridge it and pop it into the slow-cooker in the morning.

(Okay, so setting it all up the night before works really great with meat, acts just like a tenderizer in fact... but maybe not so great with legumes?)

Wait... Heineken is the CHEAP stuff?? Oh, you have no idea... Heineken is my dh's idea of a nicer beer.
