thinking about a new year and new work....

I am wicked impatient, compulsive and impulsive, and rarely like to make the same work repetitively.  Many potters ONLY make the same work over and over again. I have a few items I have made more than once over the years like popular elephant mugs and piggy banks, but lord, don't make me do more than ten at once.
Mostly I follow the leadings of my restless mind.  I never go anywhere, but my mind does.  It seems like every December I am thinking of some big changes to explore in the new year and I start messing around once the holiday rush is over.  My rush is ending but the experiments have begun.
I'll show what I mean more clearly tomorrow and the next day, but this gives you an idea of ONE of the big new ideas percolating....

Like those mugs and the glaze is perfect for them. And so the journey begins again!

That’s a very sweet mug Gary.
I’m the same way, I’ll make something then I want to move on to something else. My favorites are the ones I come back to again and again.

Gary, the great thing about your work is that you explore new shapes, animals, monsters, glazes, all the time AND still have a cohesive body of work. You got down man!

I'm so glad that Geoff Bird said to me once (he's the senior teacher at BMCA studio) "keep it around for a year before you throw it away" when talking about clay mistakes. Going back to the Forest Project happened because of that, and my interest is now renewed. LOVE the frog and leaves!
