preppie mating symbol....
I tell the wife "made an alligator bowl today, tail up!" and we remember what that meant back in the 80s....yuppies could spy each other across the dance floor, and the tail up on their shirt meant they were ready and willing to mate with their own kind.....

My brother got me a copy of the preppy handbook from the early 1980's and it was an entertaining read after having met people who seemed preppy to me. Even so, I had no idea about the symbolism of the alligator!

Ah those memories. I was just beginning to come back to pottery. Preppy never meant much to me! Love those little alligators you make. Better on cups than shirts!

Oh, how I wish I could have afforded those preppie shirts in high school!!! Can you believe that I dream of alligators at least once a week....might be because I see them all the time??
