truth in advertising

Maybe I am a rarity, but I love raccoons (except the one who wandered across our yard one summer, looking like he was frothing at the mouth).

Aren't they funny and intelligent?  Yesterday was a very racoon-y day.  I got my favorite sun butter and ginger tea at the store, was working on drawing a new raccoon figure AND saw a dead raccoon down the road, flattened…dang.  ANYWAY, pandas are raccoon cousins, I have heard, but I don't live near pandas….

IN OTHER news, I like to get good boxes for pottery to hold my groceries at the coop.  (my shipping philosophy = SCROUNGE).  I don't eat the stuff from this bakery, but Spike and I are fond of their boxes, as you can see….. have a great Tuesday!

Super WHAT?

Is this the Super Bowl nobody cared about? Maybe.  I don't think anybody in this house is paying much attention, although it seems like Carolina's turn, so I say good luck to them.  We will be at the late afternoon screening of Oscar Nominated Animated Shorts…the cartoons that could win an Oscar! Just after the wife and I became an item 24 years ago, this was one of our first dates, and every year we try to go, why wouldn't EVERYBODY?

As you can see from my new mugs below, I like animation and cartoons and comics, right?  Have an awesome day!

are turtles anything but kindly?

I wonder, except for snapping turtles, and if you are not a bug or fish, turtles are pretty harmless aren't they?  And they always look so wise. Next to frogs, turtles have always been a favorite of mine. I wanted to use this new celadon glaze with turtles, and decided to try some green polka dots on there…good move, doncha think?

In other news, it is just a week until VALENTINE's day! Get your good pots here…..

loving little boxes

Have I said before how much I love little round covered boxes? Not really more complicated than 2 bowls, one atop the other, with a fitted lip so they seamlessly match together….this one has my NEW color scheme of flowers on minty blue… DANG I need to make more of these…
somebody mentioned that they like how my lid is obviously glazed all the way, not  fired together--the fitted part of the lid is on TOP, not bottom.. (later:  it occurs to me this would be nice as a covered rice bowl or small soup bowl, right?  Keep things hot…)

LOOK at this gorgeous old one from, I think Korea or China, the lid fits the other way and probably fired together, BUT GOOD GOLLY I LOVElovelove this !!!!!!

later addition:  look at THIS one

…and here is a pitcher, also out of the kiln yesterday,  in my new celadon glaze with a new flower design I am trying…have a great Friday and weekend!

hunny

Sure, Pooh set the standard for honey pots, rights?  Of a certain round shape with ridges.  I hope I don't sound silly when I tell you I loved the Pooh stories….remember the one where it is Eeyore's birthday and Pooh is going to give Eeyore a jar of honey?  And Piglet is giving him a balloon?  Piglet breaks the balloon and Pooh eats the honey, but they give Eeyore the empty pot and deflated balloon scrap…and Eeyore is just so pleased to get gifts and figures it is great that he has a pot and something to put in it….

ANYWAY, here is mine, it is quite big, because I have had these long honey dippers hanging around for the last 10-20 years… flower on one side, a bee pressed into the other….

an utterly ordinary day...

Here are some new mugs, cuties, eh?

I was just realizing that I have nothing amazing to tell you. (do I EVER?)  Yesterday was wicked satisfying, I glazed some new pieces and loaded the kiln, finished some others with some new glaze schemes in mind.  We shall see :)

Have an entirely awesome day yourself!

I was making a flower vases, and I was going to put a flower on it, when I realized it was TIME to instead put a dragon on a vase…just as they might have a few hundred years ago in the far east….aren't those pieces up there AWESOME????????
Here's mine, and have an awesome day :)

55 and a mosquito...

Got out of bed yesterday and it was already 43 outside…do you have ANY idea how rare that is up here?  But now, morning of February 1??? 55 degrees….. we were sitting there on the couch yesterday and swatted a mosquito dead…people are playing tennis out there… I love it, would love to see this and warmer all year, but DANG it is freaky. A nice week ahead for us….

In OTHER news I was excited yesterday:  the bowls above came out along with a number of pretty green celadon items--it took awhile, but this new glaze and I have gotten to know and love each other …
the bowls below were for an order, BIG, very big, soup bowls:  enough that each holds a can of soup….
have a terrific Monday!

FLYING LINGERIE: just 2 weeks until V day!!!!!!

You probably haven't been thinking about Valentine's Day much, BUT YOU SHOULD.

Old married men like me (but not ME, specifically, as I HAVE NOT HAD A JOB in almost 20 years…plus I am COOL) will be at work and overhear "Johnny served me breakfast in bed and LOOK WHAT WAS IN MY OMELETTE!!!!!" and there she is, the 20-something with the new rock on the finger.  That same day, that same twenty-something will have flowers delivered from Johnny, and our old married guy begins to wonder if something is up….and all day long, notices others at the office are getting flowers delivered, talking of dinner plans, of teddies and bustiers….and then our old married guy GETS IT.

VALENTINE'S DAY!  Oh, right.
SO, on the way home he stops at Target…where (really!) he can buy a bunch of carnations, not too wilted yet, a funny Hello Kitty Valentine's card, and a heart box of chocolates…that taste like wax…except NOBODY has ever eaten those things.

WHAT A LOSER. He's not gettin' ANY ACTION tonight…

DON'T BE THAT guy or gal, be smart and 2 weeks before Valentine's SHOP WITH ME at my etsy shoppe! (click here) New items, like these wee dessert plates! Good for that cupcake, that scone, or those FINE chocolate dipped strawberries**** you got up early to make (the man who makes his sweetie chocolate dipped strawberries will see a lot of flying lingerie around the house, believe me :)

****(make your own chocolate dipped strawberries:  look it up, or just do this:  get some strawberries.  Melt some choco chips in a bowl in the 'wave.  Dip strawberries in chocolate, set onto plate.  (use wax paper if you want to be tidy and efficient) Cool in fridge, serve!)

bunny bouquet….

I know.  This bunny holding flowers is super dumb, but I made it anyway.  I sometimes doodle this nerdy little bunny wearing glasses…and idly thought I would bring him to life…or 3-D anyway!

Have a great weekend!

on the one hand, painted mugs.. on the other, gluten-free pizza!

What has humanity LOST by not walking or running and by not using our hands to do things?  Our bodies have evolved to make use of them, but instead we drive and blog…
The reason (most) bakers and potters are so HAPPY is they get to use those ten fingers constructively, then feel great about what they have done. Hands:  not just for texting anymore!

I wondered what it would be like to use my minty blue glaze with light purple flowers and green leaves painted on…looks mighty good, eh?  AND SO much fun to sit there listening to the great music and painting the afternoon away….I get BORED so easily that I really benefit from a mixed up day, throw a pot, trim a pot, sculpt, and in recent months, paint things….

AND then bake a pizza---hands LOVE to make them, tummies LOVE to eat them.  I can't have either gluten or dairy and choose not to eat meat, but that does NOT mean I can't make an amazing pizza, right???? Nicole Hunn's gluten-free on a shoestring has good recipes that have helped...

mugsmugsmugs…..

HEY!  How about some pots?!  Been awhile, hmm?

I had a message from a pig lover "we need four piggy mugs NOW!" which is the best sort of order, right?
And I have been messing around with this luscious new spring green celadon the last few weeks, as you know, and trying different things with it--I have always used opaque glazes, but this one has a little bit of transparency, which is a very different behavior, and I am getting used to it.  As in, give it texture! Like wee little flowers…that makes the glaze break into the light color…this mug here?  In my hand with tea….

In other news, the beagle wouldn't admit it in so many words, but on cold days she loves to cuddle with the cat...
