WHAT IF: laying it out...

What if the vet finds what looks like a cancerous tumor on your adorable beagle who will have emergency surgery this week?
What if 2 days before your father's 80th birthday he went to the emergency room in the middle of the night?
What if your mother is not as young as she once was and is by herself on an isolated farm miles from even a neighbor?  (and an hour from yourself)
What if cousins were coming from out of town?
What if others were coming into town for that 80th birthday? (remember that???)
What if you yourself had a stack of dog and cat babysitting jobs to take care of, on top of that?
And a business too? Etc etc?
What if that was how the weekend was, and your week ahead?
Well then, you might not be posting pics of new pottery, THAT's what if today, sorry.

Wow, that's a LOT to deal with. Wish I were a few states closer; I'd pop right over and help you out. Sending good thoughts and healing wishes instead!! Take care, Gary.

Oh Gary. I am so sorry. My wisdom...the universe is trying to tell you something , wish I knew what. I will pray for you and yours, because that is what I do. Know you are cared about by so many and it is not an act of male weakness to ask for help. If I were close I would take over your dog walking for awhile. My suggestion (even though you didn't ask for it) is forget the blog for awhile.
(---''---) that's a big hug for you and yours from me and mine.

Oh my goodness, Gary...you've definitely got that week-from-heck thing happening. My thoughts and prayers are coming your way for healing of Penny, dad, the schedule and dealing with all those out-of-towners. The pots are always adorable, but sometimes clay has to wait for the living breathing folks. So take a deep breath...

OY!
Celebrate your Dad's birthday! That's most important.
I don't have your email, so I'll just have to lay it all out here.
My brothers and i are going thru the whole aging parents issue now. They have simultaneously decided to get dementia, end stage COPD, lung cancer, and falling. They live in Manhattan, We had to get 2 live in care takers for them to keep them out of nursing homes! Luckily they have the $$ for this. All of us are between 2.5 and 4 hours away. Once of us is there on Saturday or Sunday...It's pretty horrible, but glad that we can do this for them. If I were you, I think I would have "the talk" with your Mom. 80 year olds can get into mischief living on their own. You might want to look at alternatives before its crisis situation and you're running around in circles in a panic. Take it from the voice of experience. See what's out there for your parents..you'll be glad you did when the time comes...and the time WILL come. :(
On that happy note......I wish you luck in everything!! Email me if you need to vent.
Hey..Today I'm mailing off the pottery I bought for my niece's wedding that was in October. sadly, Im not sending her the 2 bowls I got her...I love them too much. Two mugs is what she gets....cushioned with dollar bills. It's a win win.
Hang in there Gary!

What if you, and the parents, and the dog, were surrounded by people who care and will do what they can to help, even if that's just sending thoughts and prayers your way. And a w00f from Jake!

ACK! Hang in there Gary. Know that we will all send you the best vibes for your parents and especially for Penny the Wonderdog! Wish I lived closer.

Oh Gary! I'm so sorry that so much is going on right now. It so often seems that everything happens at once. Of course you must tend to family matters and that includes Penny.

I'll keep your family .. pup, pop and mom in my best thoughts. And you too, of course. Update when you can.

I know how it feels.

There are no easy answers, and I remember how guilty I felt when my dog had a similar diagnosis. Did I feed him wrong, could I have prevented it?

But from a distance I know I did all I could, I know I gave him a happy life. I know my parents had happiness, and that they sought not to be a burden, nor were they.
When I sat up with my mother, in her later years, through sickness, I remembered the times she'd lay a cool hand on my fevered brow when I was a child, sick with measles or some other childhood ailment.
It's life.

But it's not always easy. The good outweighs the bad. I wish all the best for you and yours.

Keep Calm and Carry On!

So sorry to hear about what all is happening at once with you. Breathe deeply and deal with one thing at a time. Let the cousins help you out that are coming in - I'm sure they would be willing! Thoughts and prayers to you.

This must seem overwhelming, but just take it one step at a time and you will get through it. These are truly times that test one's mettle. I will keep you in my thoughts.

Oh my. So much and not much of it is good news.
Take it one step at a time; one issue at a time. Wishing your dad all the best Gary. Keep us updated.
