In other news, these pics show Penny down at our PO--our town is so small we have no home delivery, we all get boxes at the small PO ....but we are going to lose it, sadly. The postal clerk always puts a treat in my mailbox for Penny...we are sure gonna miss that.....
Take 3-4 pounds apples, about ten, and remove seeds and dice. Toss into large pot with a cup of water, zest of a lemon plus the juice from that lemon, many sprinkles cinnamon, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and start it boiling. When it boils, lower heat and simmer for 30 minutes stirring from time to time, pour mixture into blend and blenderize. Eat hot or cool and put into fridge and can even be frozen for up to a year!

Sorry to hear that you're losing your post office. Was reading about USPS financial woes, recently. That Penny is one talented as well as cute beagle! Also glad to hear you came through the weather relatively unscathed.
Glad to know you weathered the storm, too bad the same is not true of your little PO.
there is talk of seagrove losing it's post office too... what a pain that will be. we do have rural delivery but it will mean a nearly 15 minute drive to ship packages, which we do on a regular basis. it seems they stopped processing our mail onsite which means... i mailed an advertising check for a small local publication with a seagrove PO box, dropped in the outside box... it then went to greensboro (45 min. away) and back to seagrove... and it took almost a WEEK! no wonder USPS is having financial trouble!
Our post office is not on the list. Maybe because of how many miles it is to the next town. And the places in the farm areas not in a town use the post office too. Are leaves starting to fall in your area? We have some on the ground now.
I bet apple sauce cooking smells amazing! Mmmmmm.
So glad you did not get any flooding causing you to have to leave your home.
Penny is so cute, and love the PO by you, ours is like that too, so homey, and they know everyone. Ours is going too shortly, sad indeed.
Love all the apple-iciousness going on in your home...yummy!
Oh that's sad about the post office. Penny is going to hate breaking that routine. How far will you have to go to get your mail? That's a bummer.
I'm so glad you're safe! I've been a little worried about you, to tell the truth.
My parents are losing their hometown PO as well... it's like another chapter of americana is closing. Did you know that if you have a slow cooker you can make apple butter out of your homemade applesauce?? I read about it on the inter-tent!! Either way - YUM!
